I felt the same way about my dog, lost his toys and I feel really bad. He seems to be sad about it, he just slumps down with his head between his paws.

Hey, I'd feel bad for losing one of my pets' toys too. Seems understandable to me. It was only a mini freakout, which seems on par for someone who cares a lot about their pets. A major freakout might be too much, but you're within your rights there, regardless of age or gender.
