Hey, some demons are hard to face. Maybe he needed a big hug while chatting about that seriously hard stuff. The way he saw it at the time it was probably the lesser of the 2 evils, credit to him. When I've hard some hard thinks about my drinking the first thing I'm temped to reach for is a drink. I'm really glad you are talking to him about this. If this is something he wants to change, and you are onside then he has an amazing opportunity. Please encourage him to get some professional/structured help to assist all the love and support you can give him. best of luck
