Today, while working at my new job at a veterinary hospital, I was excited that I set a urinary catheter in a dog for the first time. I guess I was a little too enthusiastic though, because I pulled it out too fast and bloody urine splashed up all over my face. FML

I definitely think that the YDI, I understand that being able to do a new procedure or skill causes excitement, but being enthusiastic and rushing are two different things. One is acceptable and even encouraged, the other causes accidents and are not appropriate. Also, blood in the urine can be normal after catheterization even if the OP hadn't rushed, so the dog may not have necessarily have been harmed any more than a catheter would have in any normal circumstances. The only part that may have been avoidable about this fml was the splashing of urine onto the OP.

thanks maygen for being the only other person to realize the dog was prolly already bleeding.

also you don't stick a needle in the urethra...you put it in through the lower abnomen directly into the bladder

Your life's not ****** until the PETA thugs catch up with you. For people who so passionately oppose cruelty to animals, they sure can lay a mean ass-whoopin' on humans they don't care for.

they were all animals cruelly murdered in their past lives.... revenge!

I'm not a veterinary assistant, but sometimes I get so excited when scooping the cat litter that I fling the crap into my face. I just can't contain myself!!!

@36 that's ******* gross! p.s. I'd like to give a shout out to snickers whose always on this fyl and op fyl 2 your evil! David said it best I'm bleeding! or well the dog is but o well.

i'm pretty sure #36 was kidding if not then ya thats so gross

that's horrible you probably hurt that poor dog so much you shouldn't be working in a vet clinic...

urinary catheters are uncomfortable for animals, but pulling it out too fast is like ripping off a band-aid too fast: uncomfortable, but good to get it over quicker.

ydi u idiot i would not want u to be my dogs vet

didn't they teach you to crimp the end of the catheter to keep urine from splashing all over your face? that was the first thing I learned when we learned about urinary caths. and P.S. people- urinary catheters are uncomfortable for animals, but pulling it out too fast is like ripping off a band-aid too fast: uncomfortable, but good to get it over quicker.
