Almost any kind of "ugliness" can be fixed with careful (and knowledgeable) use of makeup and hair dressing. However, it's so easy to think that "I can't fix this" and give up. Look into "straight makeup" - one author that I've liked is Kevyn Aucoin. And even if that don't work out, know this: How you look when you first meet somebody doesn't really matter - who you are shines through. I remember once when I met a girl and thought "Ouch" - and after half an hour of talking to her, I actually thought her quite pretty.
