If i was a mugger i wouldnt go near someone with a dog. is it like a poodle or something?

Honestly this all depends on the breed and the way it is treated by the op. Dogs are very loyal when it is deserved.

I have one of those! Of my three dogs, I really only trust the one in my profile pic to defend me (but I'll never get to test that out. Nobody's going to bother me with a big bulldog by my side anyway.) Of the other two, one would want to play and the other would just run away. Some dogs just have better sense than others.

Sorry OP! I have Three dogs, all spade females! The one time someone tried to break into my home My Siberian Husky just growled & barked, then stood beside me while I call the Police! My Dachshund/Standard Chihuahua Cross is my REAL guard dog, because she not only barks & growls like a big dog, but she'll attack on command or if I'm in danger! My miniature Chihuahua/Pomerania cross thinks she's as big as my Husky, but she LOVES everyone she meets! This is probably a good thing because she is a therapy dog that go's with me to see specials needs children/adults! So to all those people posting that OP probably had a small dog! Not necessarily! To OP, sorry for your situation! Hopefully you'll still love your dog anyways!

Get a moggie. Not much protection from muggers, but they don't need walking, and mine was a fierce house protector.
