Unfair

Today, after having finally summoned the nerve to report a guy at my workplace who has been sexually harassing me for months, I got a phone call from my boss. He said that there was nothing he could do about it, because the guy "wouldn't confess." FML

Leaving may be your best bet :(

Sucks for you. Report him to a higher authority then. Or get him caught in the act.

It always confuses me why women make less money with this sort of behavior.

"yeah, I know you said this guy has been sexually harassing you, but he said he didn't do it... If he said he didn't do it, then he didn't do it." If only that really worked! Your boss is a grade A douche.

"yeah, I know you said you didn't harass her, but she said you did... If she said you did then you did." See how that doesn't work either?

Your comment and mine are the same thing. I meant to imply that the person she's reporting to shouldn't just assume off of what people say, as if any real justice comes from that.

Next time, it'd be prudent of you to record not only the entire dialogue exchanged- verbatim- but also exact time and dates of the incidents. This way you can report things not only to your workplace but in a situation such as this when nothing is done about it, you could report it to the police and they will be more inclined to take your claim seriously. The amount of women in the workplace yelling "sexual harassment" are ever-increasing and a lot of the time they're bullshitting for the sake of money or petty vengeance. For example my ex has a sexual harassment claim filed against him because he told a female co-worker to "Man up" in a joking manner. She didn't like him, he has that on his record under "Sexual Harassment" forever. So just build up as much proof as possible and failing that.... Just get one of your friends to kick his ass or something :"D

well it's his word against yours. as long as you can not provide any evidence or witnesses that support your accusations why should he trust you more than his other employee? just because you are a woman? i would find that rather sexist.

That's usually why you report an incident in the first place.

So it has to take this guy to confess for your boss to do something, and what happens if he actually hurts you?

No the boss can't punish the guy in anyway because OP didn't bring any evidence other then her word. That doesn't mean the boss won't be on the look out or put in measures to help prevent it in the future. Which is what should be done, and hopefully he does it. IMHO suing somebody should only be done in more serious cases, and sometimes sexual harassment calls for that.

I completely agree with #138. People on here keep on saying that this is unfair, but wouldn't it be equally unfair for the boss to fire the guy just based on an accusation? I hate this double-standard bullshit. Yes, he should investigate instead of that lame excuse, but he needs CONCRETE PROOF.
