What do I do?

By ouch - This FML is from back in 2013 but it's good stuff - Canada - Charlottetown

Today, I thought maybe I should go to my doctor because my hips crack every time I take a step. But she's also my recently ex-boyfriend's mom, so I have to choose between being in constant pain or having my doctor poke at my hips while asking me why I'm no longer dating her son. FML

Exactly, usually there is more than one doctor in a practice, ask to see another one, they can't exactly refuse that request. If they ask why you don't want to see your usual GP then just explain you have personal reasons which you do not wish to discuss. Its unusual though for doctors to put out prescriptions and the likes with family, friends and others they know.

I don't know how the situation is where OP lives but in Quebec, Canada we are strongly lacking in medical personnel and getting a family doctor is extremely hard so OP might not have a choice to stay with said doctor..

Prince Edward Island is also not a very big area, so there may only be a couple doctors. Who knows, the other doctors could have reputations as butchers.

I live in Manitoba and finding a family doctor is difficult. But... Maybe she would be professional? If not, claim a conflict of interest and try to find a new doctor, OP.

Well, it's very hard to find a family doctor throughout Canada as there is a shortage of medical personnel... and the population of Prince Edward Island is 140,000 so there are probably like 20 doctors. lol

OP might live in Nantucket. The NYTimes recently did a report on how there was only one doctor who lived on the island.

**** that, i ain't doin that! Find another doctor. But you never know she might not care, one way to find out :S

I would hope that she maintains an air of professionalism in her practice.

If she is, hopefully she's one of those mother's that will understand why you and your boyfriend broke up. That is, if you did tell her. Everything happens for a reason.

Tell her her is son is gay that's why. Maybe you'll get lucky and she won't bother to ask you.

You should just go, anyway. If she asks, just politely tell her that it's none of her business, just you and her sons business. But you really should get that checked out, and if she's the only one who can do it..

I'm guessing you broke up with your boyfriend because he was forcing you to be a contortionist hence your weirdly clicking hips?!

Watch out, she could have you sectioned just out of spite...I'd just find another doctor!

I wouldn't worry about it. Her opinion isn't really that important is it?

Not like she's a doctor, right?
