With friends like these…

Today, I let a friend borrow a power saw. When I found it on my porch later, the blade was missing and the cord was cut. Looking closer, I realized it was his saw. He kept my new one. He totally denies that he switched them and now won't answer his door. FML

Where I come from, people who do things like that are called douchebags, not friends.

Makes no difference if he switched them, you loaned your friend a good working saw he has to return a good working saw. As a last resort you could try to involve the police for theft but I would first try peer pressure and involve his parents

If it new it may have a serial number on it. Call the police get the saw back and let him spend a few months in jail

"Neither a borrower nor a lender be" - pretty sad that you had to learn this proverb in this fashion. Wipe his shitty ass saw down nice and pretty, put on a pair pf gloves so you leave no prints, then return his saw by throwing it through his living room window. When the police come to investigate, youhave no idea how his saw wound up in his living room, but you can show then your shiny new saw. Hopefully you kept the receipt. Look at it this way, your asshat neighbor has ruined any chance that you'll ever be friends, so just bring things full circle.

Just saw through the door, and get it back! ....oh, wait..

At least you know who's not a friend. Call the police. And as someone said earlier you lent him a working saw and he returned a broken one. Tell him you can either give you a brand new saw or your original. If he does nothing be relentlessly annoying.

Kick his door down and get it back the old fashioned way

Hello Police... I'd like to file a complaint about my neighbor. Can you send an officer out to my home. Thank you!

Exactly. And if you have the owners manual and put the serial number in it like I do, all the police have to do is compare the serial numbers and the OP get his back, and his asshole friend get a charge of theft.

Sadly things like this are why I never lend stuff out anymore. I've had too many things never returned or returned in bad shape. See if you can file a complaint about this guy, he's obviously not a good friend.
