Today, the communications expert I'm forced to work with added the line "as they can catch bigger fishes" to a film script. She does not believe me when I tell her that the plural of fish is "fish." This idiot not only has the final word, she makes twice what I do. FML

Fish and fishes are both acceptable plural forms of "fish"; well that's what magic schoolbus told me!

Oh look a fish! (single fish) Oh look some fish! (plural fish) Oh look some fishes! (what gollum calls fish)

"Fishes" can be used when referring to multiple types of fish! In your face bro!

Correct, but MOST of the time you aren't talking about multiple types. So I'm still with OP. Doesn't anyone remember Dr. Seuss? "One fish (singular), two fish (plural)..."

Many fish of single species = Fish Many fish of multiple species = Fishes

Yes, "fishes" is in fact a word and grammatically correct. It does, however, depend on the context. The appropriate use of "fishes" is when you are talking about a group of fish that contains various different species of fish. An example would be "Look at all the fishes in the aquarium." "I caught three fish yesterday." So in regards to the OP, there's not enough information for us to be truly sure if she is correct or not.

Boss is right you're wrong Fish - one or many of the same type of fish.. Fishes - a collection of fish of many different types..

I just knew that fact OP. Thank God English is not the native language here where I live, I would've looked like an idiot using fishes in the wrong context.

If she's such an idiot try manipulate her into giving you her job ;)

At least you told her so, and hopefully you don't get blamed for her **** up. Some people are just retarded.

I have hear both being correct, my English teacher said if you are talking about multiple species then fishes can be used or fish.

One Fish (single) Two Fish (plural) Red Fish Blue Fish Although both can be correct but "fish" is more commonly used. Just be glad she didn't write PHISH. Ugh! Now I have that "Fishy Fishy" song in my head! :P

Try singing another song. Fish heads, fish heads, roly-poly fish heads. Fish heads, fish heads, eat 'em up - yum!

Awesome! What a great replacement! I love that song! (:

I was thinking "just keep swimming, just keep swimming swimming swimming..."
