Today, the communications expert I'm forced to work with added the line "as they can catch bigger fishes" to a film script. She does not believe me when I tell her that the plural of fish is "fish." This idiot not only has the final word, she makes twice what I do. FML

Fish and fishes are both acceptable plural forms of "fish"; well that's what magic schoolbus told me!

ahh I dont mean to upset anyone but she could be correct. If you take Brim for example one Brim is fish and two Brim is fish. but if you have a tank with multiple Brim, Mullet, Whiting or whatever you have Fishes (being the plural for multiple species of fish in one group).

I studied zoology and fishes is correct if you're speaking of more than one species. Multiple of only the same species is fish.

Fishes is, actually, not completely wrong. You say fishes when you're talking about more than one species of fish.

It is also right when you are speaking about multiple fish of the same species. Biological sciences just made that rule to make things (e.g. reporting data) easier and more standardized. "Fishes" has never been wrong regardless of whether you are talking about a species or not. It really is just preference. I find myself using both versions interchangeably.

I f****** hate english. The only language I speak.

MW says both are acceptable plural forms. Who's the douche now?

I know exactly how you feel. My boss is a complete moron and doesn't know how to create spreadsheets or even to spell.... And she's the boss ... It's painfully ridiculous.

Well, I guess there is a reason she gets paid more than you. She probably realizes that both "fish" and "fishes" are correct, and chooses to use "fishes". You on the other hand are ignorant and yet believe you are completely right when you tell her that "fishes" is "wrong". Both forms are correct. It comes down to preference, and some fields (e.g. biology) have devised was to incorporate the two. I guess you learn something new everyday.

OP, you should Google before you post anything on here. You made yourself look real ignorant right now.

You're an idiot OP. Never post again as you significantly lower the intelligence standard of this wonderful website. There's a reason she makes twice what you do, she's twice as competent.
