Advent calendar time!

By firemansam - This FML is from back in 2011 but it's good stuff - United Kingdom

Today, I was out selling Christmas-themed calendars for charity door-to-door. I rang a doorbell and a wild-eyed man appeared at the door, shouted about being "on nights" and that I'd woken him up, called me a "bell end", threw a newspaper at me and slammed the door in my face. FML

Hell, I'd be mad too! it's always kinda difficult for some people to go back to sleep after being woken up. ydi

I spent the summer working 12 hour shifts from 6pm to 6am. That means you're spending about 14 hours getting ready to go to work, working, and the commute there and back. If you woke me up in between shifts I be pretty pissed off too. Your patience sort of gets to be in short supply when you have such limited free time. Although I'm sure you would have gotten off without me insulting you of you came to my house, because there's no way I would have answered the door.

"on nights" means he's working the night shift he was sleeping and you woke him up, he has a right to be pissed.

We live in a hostile world. No one acts decently to one another. That kind of thing happens to me everyday because of what I do, and I'm not even selling anything. That man is a very unhappy person. There are far more pleasant ways to let someone know you're not interested.

Me too. I won't give details about my job, but will say that I call people all day. (I am *NOT* a telemarketer...id rather slice my own throat open. I call people I actually have business with...as in not soliciting or selling anything). I consistently get treated rudely by people for absolutely no reason other than having the audacity to call them...and I'm just talking about the people who picked up the phone! Often times it's reception/answering service...as in its their job to be polite. People suck sometimes.

Down vote? Really? Huh...wonder what is was I said that seemed off enough for a down vote..

It's easy to ignore a phone call but for all I know the guy knocking on my door has a family freezing to death because he broke down on the side of the road, and when I expect something like that and open the door to find someone trying to sell me something, I suddenly get the urge to get to kno them, find out where they sleep, and knock on their door at 3 am trying to sell em a calendar for charity

Sucks for both of you. I use to work odd shifts and nothing sucked more then finally getting to sleep only to have someone come and wake me up.

Yeaa...I would be prettyy mad if someone interupted my time with Left Hand Sam, as welll xD

I don't get why more people vote YDI than FML. I would pissed too if I worked night shifts and someone woke me up, but OP couldn't know ...

FYLDeep 25

They are voting YDI because the OP deserved to get yelled at for waking up the guy working nights. Not that complicated.

Yes but the op didn't know. No one is all seeing and all knowing like your neighborhood psychic.

Well then see boner's comment about harassing people. I think some people might have had their minds made up which way they were voting after the first line of the FML.

Agree with 63; if you come to my door uninvited and it's not some sort of emergency I'm going to be irritated. I wouldn't throw things and call names but if I did YDI.

You definitely deserve it. Find a less annoying job. Your almost as bad as the telemarketer, and that's bad. Really bad.

He's doing charity work, it's not his real job. Are you saying he should quit his position working for that charity because heartless people like Darwin03 doesn't want then to annoy their precious alone time and keep their money to buy presents instead of helping the needy?

KiddNYC1O 20

Telemarketers are just doing their jobs.

The_A_Teen; yes I am saying they should quit their position for that charity. If he wants to help the needy their are plenty of soup kitchens and other charitable position that actually make a difference without intruding on people to beg for money.

Right because those are the only two options: donate to OP's door-knocking charity or keep your money and waste it. Grow up, please. You don't even know what OP's charity was. Not every "charity" is a worthy cause that helps the "needy". Secondly, Darwin03 and many others might actually use tbeir salaries to support themselves and their families and not have any to spare. Or they might have their own worthwhile causes they support.

Ha ha. But seriously. If he was that tired then he shouldn't have bothered getting up to answer the door. Although, if you were persistent with your knock's/door bell rings to the point he HAD to get up to answer the door then you totally deserve it.
