Advent calendar time!

Today, I was out selling Christmas-themed calendars for charity door-to-door. I rang a doorbell and a wild-eyed man appeared at the door, shouted about being "on nights" and that I'd woken him up, called me a "bell end", threw a newspaper at me and slammed the door in my face. FML

The only way the OP can deserve that is if the guy had a sign up outside saying he worked nights and not to disturb him. Otherwise, how was OP meant to know?

When I worked odd shifts I had a no soliciting sign. Everyone ignored it. I'm not posting my schedule on my front door so people know when to come back and help themselves. Not saying op is one of those types, but people doing things for charity were the worst at ignoring the sign. You know cause their cause was such a good one. And yea I'm sure it was but not while I'm sleeping.

Ignoring the sign puts the person knocking at fault, not putting up a sign puts the homeowner at fault.

I'm sorry, but...charity work, door to door, trying to sell holiday calenders? It's one thing to donate a little to the people dressed in Santa hats ringing bells in front of a store - it is quite another to incessantly ring AT A PRIVATE residence. YDI. I work nights myself, so I completely understand the guy's reaction. Except that unlike the poor guy you harassed, I have a great dane with a voice that sounds scary enough to deter strangers at the first knock!

He wasn't, the person who answered the door was "on nights" meaning he does the night shift at work so he has to get sleep during the day.

There is nothing worse then working nights, finally getting to sleep, then being woken up by some idiot who's trying to sell you shit you don't need. Just be happy the only thing he threw at you was a newspaper. I wouldve gone with something harder, like a rock. YDI
