Benefits

Today, I overheard my mother and sister talking so I stopped to eavesdrop. I recently enlisted in the Marines, and they were talking about what they would do with the money if I died. FML

I googled it, and its 100 g's death gratuity if a family member in the service dies. Hopefully it was just a passing thought on their part.

Your google search is wrong. If the military members spouse dies..they would receive 100gs if the service member dies it's 400,00

it is actually 400,000, with 100,000 payable upon notice of death to cover expenses. I k ow i was military and had to deal with this shit

it is 400g. it is 100g within 72 hours to help with costs etc. but you can opt for lower amounts. don't know anyone who did though

There's nothing wrong with just talking about it. Now if they were planning on how to make it happen, then that's another story altogether.

to all who put YDI: **** you. this guy is risking his life and his family isn't backing him. to OP: tell your admin you want to change your SGLI (this has nothing to do with a "will" so shut the hell up, civilians). that money goes to whoever you want it to. Girlfriend, your dog, your best friend, it doesn't matter. That's your right, your initiative. This thread makes me sick.

SGLI, a Will, whatever you call it that dictates what a family or loved one is granted upon a death. Everyone is saying the same thing as you, which is exclude such selfish and abhorant family members, so no need to be so damn rude. So what they didn't know the proper name? No need to tell them "shut the hell up".

wow, greedy bitches. do they even care about you? move out somewhere.

I agree with #22, everyone thinks about things like that, as long as they don't act on it it's no big deal. and he deserves it, not for what they said but for eavesdropping!!! You get what you deserve when you snoop/eavesdrop, sometimes you hear things and see things you don't want to when you do that. No sympathy from me on that.

i say you drop them out of your will, happen you do die (not likely by the way) you shouldn't give it to your selfish family. If I were you i would rather bury my savings in the ground than let those moochers get a hold of it

Leave everything to your cat.

that sucks so bad. my cousin is in the army and hes gf trying to take his money :/

Write a will and give it all to charity.

That is super messed up. My boyfriend is in the Marines and I pray every day that he doesn't deploy. Hopefully, nothing bad happens to you. Good Luck in boot camp! SEMPER FI!!
