Bigmouth strikes again

Today, I was working at a hospital-level rest home. I was making the rounds when I noticed a woman was sitting in her (electric) wheelchair in the middle of the hall. Going closer, I saw her battery was flat so I said, "Uh-oh! Looks like you've died." She bawled her eyes out and said, "Not yet." FML

Ydi for saying something like that as a rest home. And who says that? If my phone runs out of battery I don't tell people i'm dead. YDI.

wow, that's kinda funny.. untill you think about the poor old lady. I'd feel bad for her- I wouldn't post the story on a site where people could make fun of this. I'd feel guilty

I feel stupid for asking this, but what does YDI mean?

it was a joke, people. the OP was trying to have a sense of humor, and it backfired. happens all the time. her reaction is the only thing that makes the OP the bad guy. oh well,

You ********. Who says that to a poor old lady. You should be ashamed.

did you get that it was an accident and not on purpose?

I'm sorry, but who the hell says "you've died" when the battery's flat? YDI.

The OP is probably a medical student- I'm in the same class, we do a placement at this time of year in rest homes. So yeah, this is where healthcare is headed! But on the other hand, I have so much sympathy, it's not an easy job to be chucked into, probably the only reason I didn't do anything similar was because all my residents had severe dementia... And yes, saying that a battery is dead is very common here.
