Can it, Susan

Today, a woman bitched me out at the grocery store, saying that since I'm not Indian, I shouldn't be wearing a bindi - a red dot on my forehead - because it's "cultural appropriation". I was too embarrassed to tell her it was actually a pimple I'd been trying to pop on my forehead. FML

Even if it was a bindi- who's she to assume you don't identify with that culture based on your looks alone? There's a thousand possible extenuating circumstances that could have given you justification to wear a bindi.

Don't try to pop it, despite how embarrassing it may be. Wait until there's white on it and then try. If you don't, the pimple will just get worse. I know the struggle, OP. Good luck!

Cultural appropriation is one thing that pisses me off. Might get downvoted by those who agree with it, but whatever. I agree with it to a point. You shouldn't take thihngs from other cultures and wear it, ignoring the meaning or wear it wrongly. It /is/ a part of culture and should be respected, but 'cultural appropriation' also comes off as racist to me. Because you aren't this certain race(or look like it), you can't wear this. We should respect cultures, but that shouldn't mean never looking into them or trying something, respectfully, when you are really interested in it. Learn what it stands for, explore the culture, don't just go out and wear it ignoring the meaning behind it.

She wasn't wearing one she had a pimple, Did you even read the entire thing?

Yes and I ranted about cultural appropriation. Where did I say she WAS wearing a bindi? Just because I didn't put "whether or not you were wearing a bindi it's wrong because..." I am stupid? Sorry I overestimated the FML community to not think I'm stupid or illiterate. People are saying similar things, sorry I was lazy and didn't PROVE I read the full FML and understood it.

No cultural appropriation actually took place, so ranting about it is irrelevant. Why don't you spew that lecture at someone who actually DID engage in cultural appropriation?

if i like something ill wear it. i dont care where it comès from or what it means. Not wearing something to please others would be self censorship which I don't believe in.

I think stating an opinion about the ranter that harassed OP about the pimple and the culture of cultural appropriation was a perfectly valid point and on topic.

If I am correct a Bindi is used in Hinduism so if for instance you were a Hindu it is not cultural apportion at all, because you'd Hindu, but good you had social Justice dispersed onto you.

You should have just told her the truth, then bitched her out for being all up in your business.

First off, RELIGION and COUNTRIES are two different things..just because majority of India's population are hindus (hinduism is a religion )who wear bindis doesn't mean any other INDIAN MUSLIM OR CHRISTIAN WEARS a bindi too Second off, its not 'cultural appropriation ' if one does something that is not of their culture and is part of another If that were the case then why would so many places and countries have a cultural day where one dresses up and explains a particular culture or whatever This topic ******* pisses me off get your ******* facts straight people
