Catch 22

Today, I found out I have a restraining order against me from my ex boyfriend. Apparently, I drive by his house too much and it is considered stalking. He forgot that I live 2 houses down, and MUST drive by his house to get home. FML

He must have a high opinion of himself if he thinks you would drive past his house every day just to see him. If you can't drive past his house how are you going to get home?

What a lot of people on this post don't realise is that you can get a temporary restraining order without much investigation at all. There was a case a few years back about someone who was able to get a temporary restraining order against their parole officer for stalking. He was arrested later of course, but sucks for the OP.

The American Legal System makes it too easy for people to get restraining orders. They require little to no proof, and they usually don't even require that the accused be present, and sometimes they don't even require that the accused even be NOTIFIED of the request for a restraining order! This is a complete injustice. For example, there are sooo many exes- I'll admit, mostly girls, but guys too- who either are bitter about being dumped, or are just annoyed they dated the guy, so they want to be a bitch and mess up his life- so they get a restraining order. It used to be that you had to prove imminent danger for a restraining order. Now all you have to do is say "I FEEL scared/worried/stalked/whatever" and most judges will grant you one, and the judge's thinking is "oh well if the accused was a good person, and not a creepy slasher stalker, they wouldn't care they have a restraining order against them in the first place, so no harm done either way". Except that isn't the case. Future jobs screen for restraining orders, potential future boyfriends/girlfriends can see the order online many times (and almost always are gonna dump you for it, this is 5x more true for girls than guys cuz some guys like crazy but no girls like what "seems" to be crazy but usually isn't), and yeah. It pretty much is a permanent black stain on your record, barring you from jobs, a social life, or a sex life. It's pretty much the sickest way to get back at somebody you can. Our justice system deff needs to be revamped to make false accusers of restraining orders pay heavily. This isn't legally a "i dont like my ex boyfriend anymore, so im gonna get one just so he cant ever talk to me" order. This is legally a "my life is in imminent danger by someone who is LITERALLY out of control violent, not somebody who I CLAIM is "crazy" or whatever."

1. fight the temporary restraining order, they cant issue one within 200ft of your home anyways 2. remember not shit where you eat: don't date guys from work, family member's friends, long term friends, or neighbors.

That's irrelevant...your driving and I don't think you can get arrested for that...If all else fails there should be a different route to get home...

I hope you get everything straightened out.

Hope you got that revoked by proving the only way for you to get home is to drive by his house

How do you "find out"? You would've had to go to court to have it placed against you.
