I once had an older coworker do something similar. I got annoyed with her for something rude she said, and she promptly told me to "grow up," then held her hand up when I tried to respond and said "talk to the hand." I almost laughed, it was so absurd. The irony was just too much.
Emotionally immature is probably better than furniture hurling anger. I mean, you have to dodge less often with emotional immaturity, at least.
