Was it at the curb or did they take it off your front porch?
why would you leave furniture outside with no one keeping an eye on it? especially if you're new to the area, you have no idea what the people are like there!
if OP had lived in that area they would have known when the charity collection van came round.
70, not necessarily. Not everyone has the greatest memory of when these people come to pick things up. Or even know that they're supposed to come at that time. I mean, that's what I'm getting from OP.
Where I'm from the donation van comes around the day you ask them to. You call them in advance and tell them when and bam, they show up for your stuff.
On a positive note, you have a lot less to move. Sorry for your bad luck OP.
I suppose it's better then having it stolen.
In my area, if you leave furniture outside and unattended people assume you are throwing it away. The scavengers swoop down.
Is donation truck a euphemism for garbage truck or thieves? Because I've never heard of charities sending trucks around in search of donations on people's lawns before.
They probably called the truck themselves and then forgot what day they'd set the pick-up for.
No, we get postcards in the mail from local charities all the time telling us what day they will be in our neighborhood picking up donations off the curb (and what items they are needing and what they are not wanting). Some charities you have to call to arrange for them to pick up your stuff either off the curb or from inside your home (like movers, but just for the charity donations). Other charities you have to bring your stuff to their trucks, deposit boxes, or sorting centers.
did you not call the donation people yourself? sorry but seems like ydi
Wow, sorry OP. Hope you can get your stuff back!

You're moving without help? How could you place your furniture outside, not have a friend watch it and actually expect it to still be there when you return? I think this shoulda been common sense.
Well... At least you donated it to someone who will really need it
