Come again?

By Anonymous - This FML is from back in 2011 but it's good stuff - United States

Today, at work I asked a cute, albeit slightly large customer, her name. Being hard of hearing, I thought she said "Porky" and asked her about it. Turns out she'd said Courtney. FML

Th th th that's all folks. Ah I made myself lol.

Why wouldn't you just say "sorry, I didn't catch that. Can you repeat your name"? I guess you don't go far with the ladies

Honestly, as a hard of hearing person myself, I know that it's easy to believe what you THINK you heard. But when it's wrong, you should ask for clarification. I know it makes us feel dumb, but we have to do it to avoid FMLs...

You big dummeh! I work in customer service, and the best way to avoid a situation like that (if you aren't too sure about their name or you're skeptical of it) is to say "what was that you said?" or "come again?" Best of luck.

LOL this sounds like something that would happen to me. i hate it when people mumble. personally though, i like a girl with some meat on her bones ;-)

This FML makes complete sense.. I'm half deaf and do the same thing all the time, and most likely would've done the same thing in this situation. It's just instinct to assume that's what they said. Sorry OP.

Next time you think you hear something, instead of asking "did you say Porky?" ask this question; "I'm sorry, could you repeat that?"

Lol my mother-in-law's name is actually Courtney and is always worried about her weight even though she is skinny as a twig. I think I'll use Porkey instead

My name is Courtney; how on earth would you think that be someone's name ? Also, despite the fact that they rhyme, there's a big difference between the two .. Get ur ears checked buddy .. If I happened to be that poor girl, I woulda slapped u right there !

1. It's not that different. 2. OP already said he/she is hard of hearing, so no need for a check. 3. You're a bitch if you'd slap someone for that reason.

I'm hard of hearing and I usually have to think of what a person said and if it made sense. I hate asking people to repeat themselves since they don't change the tone of their voice or raise their voice some, but it is something we have to do.
