Eep, definitely get a second opinion. Most dentists are crap, and it would be worth paying out to see a really good one just to make sure any work your regular one wants to do is actually needed...
OP: Just remember~ dentists are paid on what is LIKE commission. To go from practically clean health to paying half a grand -- you need a second opinion. Unless, of course, it's been awhile since you've been to the dentist. Then it may be plausible, but highly unlikely. How likely is it that you didn't notice something wrong with your own teeth to go from healthy to getting a root canal? Soreness, sensitivity -- these are all things you would have noticed yourself.
Well i moved and my new dentist said i had about 6 four-year old cavities. If i ever see my former dentist again I'll pull her teeth out.
The FML is more about needing a root canal without having the infection hurting like hell. If you hadn't gone early enough you could have lost a tooth ou needed a crowning.
NO! NO! NO! DON"T DO IT! I had a "new" dentist come up with unneeded stuff. Go have it checked by another dentist before you do. Do tell this other dentist what your "new" dentist found. See if he comes up with the same thing. I wish I had learned this years ago. I have to learn the hard way.
You could POSSIBLY sure for medical negligence, but you would lose, and spend more money in the process than you would make. There was probably a significant amount of time between dentists, and #11 is right. Sounds like new guy is fishing for procedures to charge you for.
get a 2nd opinion dentists are infamous for claiming u need hundreds of dollars of work done when really nothing is wrong
maybe your second dentist is gouging you
Dental charlatan or not, in the future: 1) floss daily. You wouldn't believe how much flossing does for your oral health. 2) Rinse your mouth with water and baking soda at least once a day. It's not as harsh and just as effective as mouthwash, without the alcoholic minty aftertaste. 3) Don't use whitening strips, which "strip" your enamel.

Sue your previous dentist! Do it, you'll get bucketloads of money :D And FYL for having bad teeth w/o knowing it.
I know everyone is a little lawsuit happy these days, but if these problems should have been brought to your attention by your last dentist, you may have a malpractice case.
