#51: wow... I think I need a new dentist after reading that! :P I've been lucky enough to never have a cavity but not I'm worried (after both #51 and the OP) that I might be mistaken... Sorry to be off topic, but is it normal to need an anaesthetic for a routine clean? :s my mum says it hurts too much without one (she has to have 2 sessions, one for each side of her mouth)...
Get more input. My old crappy dentist said that I had 18 cavities and needed a ton of dental work, and my new one took the time to show me x-rays and point out that I only had one cavity, and that the fillings the other dentist had put in were crappy and needed to be filed down before they ****** up my teeth.
Root canals really aren't what they're made out to be. I had one last year, and it wasn't painful at all. Just extremely boring. And very expensive. Sitting in a dentist's chair with your mouth stuck open for 3+ straight hours is not fun. But it's not painful. If it hurts, they're not doing their job.
Wow. That reminds me of how bad my pediatric dentist was. All he ever told me was to brush in circles and I ended up having receded gums once I got to a real dentist.

Sue your previous dentist! Do it, you'll get bucketloads of money :D And FYL for having bad teeth w/o knowing it.
I know everyone is a little lawsuit happy these days, but if these problems should have been brought to your attention by your last dentist, you may have a malpractice case.
