Today, my 15 year-old son told me he had his first kiss. I told him how I was the same age when I had mine, and then I told him all kinds of wild stories about things I did in my childhood and college life. Truth is, I made them all up. I didn't get kissed till I was 24, and laid till I was 28. FML

You didn't have to lie. Your son didn't ask you about anything. You could of said "sweet!" and moved on.

1) you managed to make your sons moment all about you. You hijacked the conversation to make up lies about your youth. It was his moment and he trusts you enough to tell you, all you did was talk and lie about you. FAIL 2) Why would you tell your child about your "wild" days, real or made up? You just gave him free reign to do whatever he wants and you can't stop him now because "you did the same thing". FAIL

I think a few of you are being a bit hard on the OP. It seems like he felt like a loser for most of his youth (perhaps in a way he still does) and doesn't want his son to think he was loser. Basically it boiled down to "In order to bond with my son I had to lie to him so he didn't know what kind of loser his father was/is."
