It's a doggy dog world

By Zach Got Robbed - 08/01/2014 23:02 - United States - Clifton

Today, my 175-pound rottweiler I've raised since a puppy watched me get jumped and robbed of my phone and money in my yard. An hour later, he hopped the fence and chased the mail man down the street after he leaned on the fence for a second. FML

Everyone knows the mailman is the dogs arch-nemesis

You can't rely on your dog to protect you, when it comes down to it, they're probably just as scared and confused as you are in that situation, no matter how big and scary they look!

I know you probably thing and assume your dog's natural instinct should be to protect you, bbuuut the dog was probably just as scared and taken by surprise as you were.

I read that as "bubute." I wish people would stop stretching out words.

Some dogs just have different ideas of danger. And it looks like the mailman is an extreme threat...

sounds about like my dogs: acting at just thw wrong moment.

I wouldn't ever picture being mugged in my own yard...

Theres the right to bear arms? Open carry and it wont happen next time

Thousands of innocent bears get slaughtered every year for their arms. I am strongly against the use of bear arms, regardless of the situation. They are living creatures and deserve to be treated as such. SAVE THE BEARS !

Are u dumb? The 2nd Amendment. If u carry a gun in an open holster... You wont get robbed

#41, he was being sarcastic. You're obviously the dumb one. That had sarcasm written all over it.

No one should have to carry or even own a gun for protection. Or for any reason. Take self defense classes, you don't need a gun. Every other country does just fine without everything being GUNS GUNS GUNS.

he knew what he was saying you take life too seriously

actually the countries with the least crime are either poorer than dirt or they're Switzerland where every citizen is handed a gun and instructed in its use and cleaning. my guns are purely for protection i don't even hunt with them i have a bow for that

I hunt and I use a shotgun, but please don't think we're all "GUNS GUNS GUNS!!" Not all of us who hunt or own a gun are gun crazy. It's the people who are gun crazy that get the publicity.

Just because there's no guns doesn't mean there's no crime, there are just next to no shootings. Just look up North, we Canadians are doing just fine and dandy, it takes several years and an extremely thorough background check in the process of getting a gun license, and you can't get one casually. It is only to be used while hunting, and of course police officers are issued pistols. How many shootings have there been in the US in the past year and a half? They just keep happening over and over again and the government takes no action as to not offend certain people. I'd rather live gun free.

In case of shootings, the guns usually were not obtained legally.

In the cases of shootings, other than accidental, the guns usually were not obtained legally.

#69 you kind of made your own post invalid. the whole point of us with guns for self defence want to keep them is to prevent all crimes upon ourselves. not just gun crime. you said it yourself countries without guns still have crimes. and their violent crime rate is usually MUCH higher than that of the US. think about it for a second. would you attack/rob someone if you knew they were carrying a gun? yeah didn't think so.

That's because the criminals on those countries aren't heavily armed. Legalizing concealed carry of firearms reduces crime in the states that have done it, it's not even up for debate.

I happen to have no problem with people owning guns, I myself own guns and use them purely for hunting and recreational shooting such as trap shooting (shooting clay disks, with a shotgun, as they are tossed in the air). Though I also believe that they should be regulated and proper background checks should be performed. There are many other details but this is no place to dive into policy. I also fully respect other countries that do not allow guns.

52, prove your point then. Take self defense classes and then take on someone with a gun. I don't really remember the saying but it's something like, "don't bring a knife to a gun show" or something like that. Guns don't kill people; people kill people.

It's "don't bring a knife to a gunfight." Just letting you know for future use.

I don't want to start a debate because this isn't the place for it, but that is TOTAL BS!

If you have your rottweiler just to keep you safe YDI. If not, did you at least got your mail?

Wats wrong with her wanting a pet so she can be protected it's not like she doesn't love her

I'm not saying he doesn't love him but you know there are people that see dogs as weapons. They are a lot more than that :)

Did you receive/purchase this dog with security in mind? There's a reason why trained (keyword) dogs cost so much. I wanted a dog, did my research, found this out.

That sucks OP, maybe your dog thought you guys were playing or something or he didn't see him as a threat that's how my dog is at least.

Make sure the mugger leans of the fence next time
