wouldn't the husband have known if it was thiers? I mean they do live in the same house... prob went shopping together too
Just cause they live together doesn't mean they shop together
35, not trying to be a dick, but at least they used the correct form. It may have just been a typo. They happen sometimes.

Doesn't mean it was a bad wine. Perhaps just a poor choice to accompany the meal.
'Poor choice of wine.' That usually indicates that it's the wine that's bad.
If the father-in-law thought the wife had bought it he could have meant "poor choice of wine for the meal". Maybe op bought a lovely Marlborough Sauvignon, but they were having steak for dinner?
That was my first thought, actually. OP maybe brought an okay wine but the father was unhappy because he thought his wife chose it for dinner. I actually thought "poor choice" indicates that answer. If it were bad quality he could have said "poor excuse for a wine" or "poor quality".
Wine depends on the person...and white and red also varies...now on this point your father in law may not really like what you've purchased but it still could be excellent...and if it's that bad he could have is own glass...
Should have said: "Oh, I'm sorry. I brought this wine, my friend who is sommelier, recommended it"
At least the thought was there! That was a nice thing to do. Sorry op!
You should've chosen some fine scotch for the men.
Not all men drink scotch or even liquor like that. Some men only drink wine.

hopefully you stood up for your mother-in-law and told her husband if he didn't like your taste in wine to purchase his own.
Welp, you tried, ultimately though, you failed. The important question: did you stand up for the mom in law, or not? That wins you points in the moms book, or makes you lose points.
