That is so wrong. I understand be worried about if the guy would leave and I understand that some people find it hard to take other people's word for it (e.g. if they talk with the guy about it and he says it wouldn't change anything). But to 'test' people out like that or lie about something so huge is just wrong. It is a huge thing to announce, with emotional joy and also turmoil.

That was so great of you to stay with her and help raise the child. I do think you may have jumped the gun a little bit. Perhaps maybe waited a little longer to buy the supplies. I hope everything turns out alright op. You are a great man.

As a woman I will never understand why other women lie about this. I'd feel like such an asshole if I lied to my boyfriend about being pregnant and watch him take on full responsibility and probably being excited too, only to tell him it was a joke, that's horrible.
