Sounds like an episode of Jack and Bobby to me.
You may want to consider switching advisers. I changed advisers once when I was in grad school also, and I don't even want to think about what would have happened when I had to defend my thesis if I hadn't. Your faculty adviser is supposed to support your research, guide you through graduate school, and help you to learn the most you can about your thesis topic. If the person you're studying under can't manage those tasks for whatever reason, go find someone else who can. Best wishes.
You just identified the problem with Academia. Many don't spend the effort to advise, They just like to make the students feel like jerks because it makes them look so wise. Ha
is there a reason you didnt make sure of this ahead of time? its college dude, im a 2.0 student and even i know that kinda stuff. yes, you turned in papers, no that doesnt mean they got read. they dont tell you to get books and expect you to read it thats why they test you.
no one presents a thesis without getting ripped to shreds
I would try to see if I couldn't get my Master's anyway-the chances are the prof will let you get it anyway-him tearing it apart was a way to cover his own lazy butt-but there is a good chance he will not shoot you down in your final defense to cover his own sorry butt-but if you can't get it, I would talk to ther department head and try to appeal. Good luck and try not to let it devastate you!
lol.. YDI
what a dick.

That does not seem very considerate or professional of your professor, file a formal complaint ! >:O
You should have replied back with "Well it would have helped if you had been doing your job, why didn't you say something back when I showed you the drafts?" you need to stand up for yourself OP, because no one else will.
