By HELP - This FML is from back in 2012 but it's good stuff - United States

Today, I moved into a new house. The landlord insists it's OK for her to come up whenever she wants because she owns the house. We aren't allowed to lock the doors and she has two 8-year-olds. They come into the bathroom every time they hear the shower running. We have a clear shower curtain. FML

No. No it's not okay. If I'm not mistaken that's illegal for her to do.

Put a chair in front of the door. That will keep them out. It's not a lock...

That's illegal. Put a chair in front of the door.

so illegal... tell her to go away, if you didn't read the contract by god go read it. best to have a lawyer look it over to insure that its all legal, keep doors locked and demand 24-48 hour notice before shes coming over - i don't know if you can but attempt to limit the number of times she comes over say, once a month to inspect the house for 1-2 hours also google all your rights, because there's alot of laws to protect you.

That is 100% illegal for her to do. I'd say call the cops.

Look up the Renter's Rights in your state or country. Your situation is actually against the law in every state I've looked up and quite a few countries.

Buy a 12 gauge. You can shoot uninvited intruders legally. If you don't wanna kill someone you can always fill the shotshell with rock salt.

Why would you sign that lease? YDI for not reading the fine print...

I would advise moving out either way. This living situation is not going to get better even if this particular issue is resolved. They sound like the type of people who don't respect privacy, and that's not good at all. Hire a lawyer. Get out!

Do whatever you want. Do you know how hard it is to evict someone?

You should check the tenancy laws of your state, that may be illegal.
