By HELP - This FML is from back in 2012 but it's good stuff - United States

Today, I moved into a new house. The landlord insists it's OK for her to come up whenever she wants because she owns the house. We aren't allowed to lock the doors and she has two 8-year-olds. They come into the bathroom every time they hear the shower running. We have a clear shower curtain. FML

No. No it's not okay. If I'm not mistaken that's illegal for her to do.

Put a chair in front of the door. That will keep them out. It's not a lock...

OH HE'LL NO! Bust her face in. I'd be really pissed off, that would not happen. Report her !

He'll know? Are you talking about Jesus?!

That's illegal, just because she owns it doesn't mean she can barge in whenever she feels like it. You pay rent so you have the right to lock your doors

That is EXTREMELY illegal. I very much urge you to call the cops next time or sue her, whether it's her wandering in or the kids. There are a lot of renter/leaser-protection laws out there to make sure things like that do NOT happen.

After reading the comments above me, I have to both agree and disagree. While the landlord does have to right to inspect to property at any time with fair warning (unless you just invite her in), she can't have her own set of keys and intrude whenever she wants. Even if it's in the lease agreement, it's illegal.

Not to be rude but if it was me id move out after telling her her stupid azz policy is complete and utter bull****

That's illegal. She's invading your privacy and can't come and go as she pleases.

And you have a clear shower curtain because??

Ever heard of this thing called a lock?

Clearly they have heard of it considering they said in their FML post that the landlord wouldn't let them lock the doors...dumbass.

I retract my former statement about the locks, instead I propose a sniper rifle, a bit more expensive but it permanently deals with the situation
