Looking for love in Alderaan places

By not4geeks - This FML is from back in 2009 but it's good stuff - United States

Today, I went out on a first date with a cute guy. Turns out we won't be going on a date again because I didn't know the difference between "Star Wars" and "Star Trek." FML

How do you not know the difference? YDI. I'm a girl, and I'd dump you for that. It's proof positive that your interests clash.

wow. you're an idiot... I mean, even not nerdy people still know the difference between them. It's like getting the back street boys and taylor swift mixed up. Yea, 15 year old girls is the target group but they're still two entirely different things. YDI for sucking at life. no offense

...What's the difference? LOL

#262: You don't have to be a nerd to find it so hard to believe someone doesn't know that. You're right, nobody has to share the same interest. But one thing is to be dumped for not liking them (the guy would be a freak) and another thing is to be dumped for not KNOWING them or how they're different. That shows dumbness. If someone doesn't know about something so simple and ridiculously famous, that person's probably going to be some kind of bimbo with whom you can't really talk about anything. It's pop culture. Even if it's pop, it's still CULTURE. The lack of culture on basic stuff makes people look ignorant. So yes, she deserves it. By your logic, pretty much everyone's "a ******* nerd"

You just know that everyone that's saying YDI are all nerds...

#262 Welcome to the internet. When you post, you're opening yourself up for ridicule. If you can't handle that, you don't belong here.

my take on it.... 1) Mixing up the titles once in a while is acceptable, it happens sometimes. 2) But totally confusing them?... unless you've lived under a rock for 20 years, wtf? I don't even have TV (by choice) and know the difference...

You know, not everyone has to see them. Just because they're the biggest sci fi fandoms of all time, doesn't mean its expected for everyone to know the difference. And it depends how far people mean by "knowing the difference". Do you just mean if you saw a pic of Spock, and a pic of Obi-Wan, you'd be able to tell the difference? Cause that, most people would be able to. But to know the differences between plots, or other not-as-famous characters, settings, etc... that's asking WAY too much. I adore Star Wars, and obviously know what is Star Wars and what is not, but I couldn't tell you anything about Star Trek aside from Spock, the black guy with the visor, and what the costumes look like.

Alewiina, honey, I imagine the OP made a teeny mistake, was corrected on it, and said "Oh, what's the difference ? That crap's all the same to me." Then again, I'm bitter and cynical. :]
