Today, it was my birthday. Some 17 year-olds will receive cars as presents from their parents. Mine, however, booked me a plot in the local graveyard. FML

it's not about the fact that she didn't get a car. She was using it as an example. she never said she wanted a car. it was more like other people her age got cars not burial plots. I would freak out if my parents did that to me. I don't want to buried. Her parents are selfish assuming she would want that without asking. maybe she won't even like the location of the plot either. fyl indeed.

Guys, like others have said, the FML is not about a car, it's about a burial plot. That being said, something no ones mentioned, what if OP had older siblings that got cars for their birthday? If OPs siblings got cars and she didn't, wouldn't you be upset too? Some parents will indicate to their kids that they'll buy their first cars and if they don't follow through, it's a major disappointment. There's nothing wrong with getting a car from your parents. It doesn't mean you'll treat it any worse or won't appreciate it. I can tell most of you commenters are from less well off families (which there's absolutely nothing wrong with) so you don't know what it's like on the other side of the fence. Rich kids aren't just spoiled snobs who take everything for granted (there are some but MOST rich kids actually appreciate what their parents do for them). When you grow up a certain way, there are normal expectations that come along with it and OP may have grown up in an environment where it's rare not to get a car for your birthday. There's nothing wrong with that.

the plot in the graveyard is stupid but other than that quit bitching about cars. I didn't get mine till 24 I didn't bitch like a pansy.
