Meat is murder

Today, my fiancé's parents visited. I keep chickens for their eggs, and his parents own a farm, so we had a connection. They told us to leave the house while they cooked us dinner. When we returned, we faced two steaming plates of chicken. My chickens. They had names. FML

I would make them pay ($$ only) for the deceased chickens. It's your business if you're a vegetarian or not, so I find that information non-essential and don't see why everyone is making such a fuss - that's your business, they are your chickens. Even if you were keeping the chickens for food/meat, it's still rather rude for your in-laws to slaughter/cook them without your input. What if you were saving them for breeding stock, etc. Your in-laws didn't know - yet did not even ask permission to kill/cook/eat them. I find your in-laws rather rude. Perhaps you should reconsider your liaison with your boyfriend.

What is with people getting so angry and rude at people for being vegetarians? They're not making YOU stop eating meat, so why the hell would you care what someone else chooses to do? People really need to mind their own business and respect people's choices.

That's so horrible! Couldn't they tell, at least, that they were laying chickens? Owning their own farm they should have at least respected the fact that these chickens were exclusively for EGGS not EATING... Some people are idiots. I'm sorry for your loss.

It actually doesn't take a long time to butcher and eat a chicken. Once it's killed, you can easily breast it by putting your feet on the tale and pulling up on the legs. The breast comes out clean, you can toss (or keep) the rest, and all it needs is a slight going over, and then boil it, grill it, whatever. It takes like, 10 minutes.
