Today, my neighbor confessed to me that he was homophobic and regrets that his family doesn't know it. He spent fifteen minutes explaining how much he would hate to have a gay child. I spent two hours last night convincing his son that it was the right thing to tell his family he was gay. FML

Casual homophobia

Today, I came out to my parents and siblings as gay. They were very accepting and asked me why I waited until I was 25 to do so. I didn't have the heart to tell them it was their own homophobic remarks that kept me closeted since I realized it at 14, and that a previous coming-out to a parent was dismissed as 'a phase'. FML

Today, my boyfriend told me that he is homophobic. This wouldn't be such a big deal, if my mother wasn't a lesbian. He doesn't know this yet, and I'm afraid to tell him. FML

Today, I introduced my girlfriend to my parents. My mother turned to me and said, "Wait you're actually gay? I thought you were just saying that to piss off your father." I came out to her when I was 16, and have confided in her about my past relationships. FML

I agree that he shouldnt have to hide who he is and that coming out would be such a great thing for him to do, but I hope you warned him after hearing what his father said. It makes me sick that there are still people like this in this day and age that dont understand that you dont choose who you love, you just fall in love.

It was genetic. Most homophobes are secretly gay themselves. They put on a front and secretly hate themselves for having those feelings of being gay. That is why they hate other gay people.

There has to be more info to this like did the dad hate gay people because of religion or what? Maybe he just doesn't understand the gay culture and therefore hates it?
