Today, my neighbor confessed to me that he was homophobic and regrets that his family doesn't know it. He spent fifteen minutes explaining how much he would hate to have a gay child. I spent two hours last night convincing his son that it was the right thing to tell his family he was gay. FML

That's why you don't get involved in other peoples' business. But FYL because you reall were trying to help the kid.

F the kid's life. D: That's so shitty for him. His parents should accept him :/

It's still the right thing for the son to tell his family - and there's a good chance that the father's issues stems from already knowing the truth and being scared of it. There's still so much hate and fear of homosexuals that the father's problem may be what it could (note: COULD, not WILL) mean for his son's life, the possibility of being much harder, and the fact that in most of the country his son has fewer rights than, in some cases, illegal aliens.

In general I believe it's good to be open with your parents about sexuality; however, that's ONLY IF you can be financially independent in case the news is taken badly. YDI for not doing your research. I hope the kid still has a home.

FYL. this isnt ur fault at all! its that ass who lives next to you's fault... gawd... i dont get how people can b homophobic!!!! :-( FYL and **** ur neighbors kids life bc he has a homophobic dad. :-(

Uh, I'm too lazy to read all the previous comments, but this isn't an FYL at all. You should have minded your own business and stayed out of your neighbor's affairs. Don't get me wrong, homophobia is stupid, but it's really a FHL that you elbowed your way into.

wow, you stepped into this one huge, and YDI for getting involved in somebody else's shit. P.S. I feel really sorry for the dad.

Err, what the **** people? The son might have come to him for help! I'm not sure HE, totally out of demand, would have come to his neighbor's house to convince the gay son to tell his whole family. I guess the man has more a life than that.

this debate annoys me to no end... I'm too much of an intellectual elitist for my own good. Homophobia is derived from the anxiety produced by suppressing and denying one's own bisexuality. It is a genuine fear ingrained into them. As for the genetic debate, research shows that its more likely hormonal. The mother's body identifies the male baby as foreign and attacks the hormones of the fetus' body. In all likeliness homosexuality is in a much too complex system to be govern by one gene.

It is the right thing for the fairy to tell his family, so they can straighten the fk out of him.... Its not your fault for anything after that, cuz the kid is already gay... plus, its not like u told him its o.k. to be a queer.
