Today, my boss asked if I could spare a few minutes to finish off the last of his paperwork backlog. I'm pretty desperate for a raise, so I said sure. Turns out the "small", "should-take-a-few-minutes" backlog consists of 3 desk-high stacks of documents. Goodbye, cruel world. FML

If your boss is treating you like that, I wouldn't be too confident about a possible raise. Might want to look for work outside the office-slave industry

Just think of the raise... Good luck op

You should've asked how much

Teacher: Today your homework is to do question 1 and 2 only Students: Yeah! Students: Turn over and look at Question 1 and 2 Students: Q1a Q1b Q1c Q1d Q1e Q1f Q1g...more questions.....screw it....

Haha. I see what you did there... and I like it.

I don't think they got a raise. I think they want one.

Your hard work will be rewarded one day. Just keep the hard work up.

Sadly, it probably won't work in OP's favor.

Oh the things desperation does to a person.

Oh okay Jim I'll see you round, where you goi-oh! Oh God that's not what I thought he meant by that at all!

If you didn't look at all that work and immediately tell your boss "Boss, if I'm gonna do your work along with my own I need a raise." then You Deserve It!

Did you ever consider that to the boss that actually is a 'small' amount of paperwork? I often stay at my desk late into Friday night to clear my desk to start fresh on Monday. Just doing what needs to be done.

Although it's true it could be a small amount to him, it obviously would take more than a few minutes like he told her. And you wouldn't delegate all of that paper work to an employee making them stay late and work extra hours. If the boss actually wanted help with it he could've asked her to do it during her regular work hours, or he could've asked her to stay after work and offered her overtime (while not lying about the amount of time it would take). That would've been the right thing to do.
