Yeah, they would have. If their parents live with OP for financial reasons or whatever, it could actually be OP's house and not the parents. That is, however, assuming OP is above 18.

Most likely its a teenager trying to make themselves sound independant. My little sister referred to her parents as "her roommates" until she moved out.
