well that WAS kind of creepy..
The problem here is that this is a way that a girl would like to be asked to a dance by a guy she likes. If you weren't 100% certain that the answer was going to be yes, this was a super risky move. Imagine in reverse: say a guy that you're friends with but have no romantic interest in sets up this very thing. You turn down your street and see it, plus him waiting with a big bunch of balloons in your driveway. If you go, it's just going to be to let him down in a way that you'll feel like a jerk about, since he's obviously set up this huge thing and is all excited. Men hate confrontations and I'm not surprised that this guy backed away, even though the integrity move would have been to gently face the music and tell you he wasn't interested in going to the dance with you. Men also don't typically like balloons. Balloons are generally associated with kids, and even though girls, even in high school, sometimes still like them, any self-respecting guy would feel ridiculous being given balloons. A for effort, and I'm sorry it turned out this way for you (I really am), but I just had to point out that your tactic wasn't as well thought-out as it could have been. Better luck next time!
eek I'm sorry :( At least you put yourself out there though, good for you. A guy asked me to a dance in a really extravagant way once (that's how it was done in my high school too) and I turned him down, looking back, I feel pretty bad about it though. You'll get over it though, just keep your head up!
Like a few other people have said, this isn't creepy. Did you guys ever watch Laguna Beach? They went ALL OUT to ask people to prom and such. At one high school I went to, guys had candy personalized and all kinds of crazy stuff. At a different high school I went to no one did that kinda stuff. I think it depends on location as to whether or not that is socially normal. So stop attacking her for being a total creeper.
that happened to my friend! and i think it's creative.

You brought that upon yourself. Just ask him. Sheesh.
OUCH!
