Not funny, guys

Today, I accidentally fell asleep at work after working a 12-hour shift. Instead of waking me up, my coworkers spiked my coffee mug with whiskey and told my boss I was drunk. My boss wouldn't even listen to my side of the story and fired me. FML

Wow! Does your workplace have security cameras that could have caught the people involved with this?? And why did *they* have whiskey at work!?

Falling asleep is innocent! Especially after 12 hours! But spiking isn't! Pull out those security tapes!

Better luck at your next job, and for 12 hour shift? That's sadly a normal shift for most professional full time jobs so get used to it or work part time.

No it isn't. There's a reason labor unions pushed so hard to make an 8-hour workday the norm. 12-hour shifts should be the exception, not the rule.

Except that most people aren't in a union. And I have worked 24+ hour shifts. It's not uncommon to work a 12, even when I worked at Victoria's Secret... Hahaha labor unions.

I don't understand anyone on here. Yes op got fired for a prank. But op was still sleeping on the job. Not something anyone's boss would be happy about.

Yes, OP slept on the job. That's indeed not something a boss would be happy about, but did OP really deserve to get ****** by a shitty prank from their coworkers? No.

@17 the difference between sleeping on the job and drinking on the job. if his boss would've caught him sleeping, he could have just given him a warning or a write up. but since he got caught "drinking" on the job it forces the boss to fire him cause that's a more serious infraction.

@17 I think you're focusing a little too much on the falling asleep part, and not nearly enough on the getting fired for something OP didn't do part.

@17 I think (s)he fell asleep after working the shift, so not during work hours. Considering you're off the clock then, it would be a lot less bad.

But would the prank have happened if op didn't fall asleep?

No, but that just makes it sound like OP deserved to be fired for getting pranked. Also, falling asleep on the job doesn't immediately warrant being fired. Unless it's something that regularly occurs, a reprimand/punishment should be enough. Also OP stated (s)he fell asleep after the shift, not during it. So (s)he was probably already off the clock but nodded off at their workstation.

#17 is kind of right tho. OP shouldn't have slept on the job. I get tired too but I don't sleep bc I'm there to work and make money not lounge off. Since OP fell asleep they left themselves vulnerable to a ruthless prank. FYL OP, but YDI Be more alert next time.

Yeah people. Op fell asleep after work. 12 hour shifts are really brutal, and not common at all. Worst of all, are his shitty coworkers. **** op's life.

That's terrible. So sorry you work with a bunch of idiots. Or rather used to work with a bunch of idiots. I hope you get your job back or find a better job.

when it comes to a person's job, you should never ever joke about it. this is just cruel and bad taste.

sorry but i wouldve burn down their house

The boss isn't smart. There is a huge difference between behaviors of someone sleepy and someone drunk. He wasn't drunk, how could he not notice the absence of whiskey smell on OP ? And telling thing like that doesn't fell suspicious to the boss, it comes out in the middle of nowhere. I guess they wanted you to left thus, I would take them to the court and defend myself. Then find a better family for my new job.

Take a drug test to prove you had no alcohol in your system. Use the CCTV cameras as well. I'd fight it, usually you can attempt to appeal it. Though, falling asleep can be a fireable offense

Thank you! I was looking for someone to say this!

If you were working in japan then you'd have been congratulated for working so hard that you fell asleep.

OP, you've failed at life if you've become so vulnerable.
