That is very unfair. You can sue the place!
that's duh muddabooshit..
What if they spiked his coffee as a plot to get him fired and the boss what in on it after all.
I think I need more info before I can decide if OP deserved it or not. What kind of work does OP do? How often does OP put in 12 hour shifts? What's the home situation like for OP? Does he/she get enough sleep? I have fallen asleep at work once in the whole time I have worked there. Yes, it was my fault I won't deny that but the circumstances kept me from getting in trouble. My shifts are 8 hours long (as usual) but one day I had to work a double because my relief no call no showed, no problem there. So I got off at 7am and needed to be back at 3pm the same day. I knew if I took a nap I would be late or worse: miss my shift completely so I stayed awake and went in at 3pm. Around 10pm that night (one hour until I was done and could go home) I zonked out for 5 minutes. None of my coworkers, or my boss got mad or anything. I did have to have a verbal warning though it was basically a slap on the wrist. If the situation was similar then I can I could cut OP some slack for falling asleep. Those coworkers "prank" was going a bit to far though.
12 hours isn't even that long... What are you 14? I've worked 24 hour and longer shifts. Maybe don't fall asleep at work. And really? Couldn't smell whiskey? Cop out dude
pics or it didn't happen
"12 hours isn't even that long" umm yes it is, my friend. Most people don't have 12 hour work shifts.
Who are "most" people? Anyone who works in healthcare, emergency services, or other non traditional jobs routinely work 12+ hours. If you fall asleep there- no matter what the circumstance, they will charge you with neglect. I happened to one of my staff. Assuming everyone works 8 hour days and that working longer is somehow a legit reason to fall asleep at work is ridiculous. Please tell that to the fireman who don't show up to your house fire cause they "fell asleep"
On one hand this really sucks. Your coworker is a dick and your boss should see the difference between being drunk and being tired. Or at least should have you take a breathalyzer test, because he can't prove you were drunk. On the other hand, there is just no excuse (except maybe medical problems) for falling asleep at work. I've done 12 hour shifts and double shifts too on only a couple of hours of sleep. I've never fallen asleep.
Why not? I nap at work sometimes in the evening if I'm working a long day. Recharges the mind. What's wrong with that? Next you're going to tell me there is something wrong with showering at work.
People don't read do they. Here let me help. He fell asleep AFTER working a 12 hour shift. Meaning not on the clock, meaning he wouldn't get fired for falling asleep AFTER working.

Wow! Does your workplace have security cameras that could have caught the people involved with this?? And why did *they* have whiskey at work!?
Falling asleep is innocent! Especially after 12 hours! But spiking isn't! Pull out those security tapes!
