On the fence

Today, my estranged father, who is a cop, decided to show up to my 17th birthday party. He immediately began arresting people for underage drinking. Way to mend fences, dad. FML

YDI. Your dad is a cop - he can't ignore the law for you.

Sorry, but YDI. If you drink underage, you run the risk of getting caught.

It always amazes me how uptight people can be about underage drinking

lol..retarded..when we were kids, 15-16 (21 now).i live in alberta...butmy parents would throw parties for us and all our friends..about 70-80 of us.it was a small town so everyone knew everyone...and the cops would show up every time..just to look around and see that everyone was being safe..we knew all the cops by name in town...my parents would take everyones keys at the door, my mom doesnt drink so she would watch and make sure no one drove..we paid for taxies for anyone who needed them.make sandwich platters and the whole nine, as well as boot for all of us and buy the booze.cops figured better to have em all in a controlled envornment then out at bush parties or whatever.. and we never got noise complaints or in trouble once

Uh, OP never said anything about there actually being alcohol there. He was "estranged," so he could just be doing it out of spite, illegitimately.

Well you should have known better than to have underage drinking in the first place. But what happened between you and your father after that? Did he just leave your life again or..?

No sympathy from me. It's against the law.

I can't believe more than 46k people think his life sucks. He's underage drinking, and it's not by like a year, he's not even a legal adult yet. This is ridiculous

This is like the latest reply ever - but OP is from Australia where the legal drinking age is 18, so it is by a year, for the OP at least.
