Today, I learned that making an illegal U-turn right after you see a cop doing one will not stop said cop from ticketing you. FML

Yeahhh...cops get to do that sort of thing. Similar thing happened to me, though. When I was a freshman in college, I wasn't familiar with the roads on campus and didn't realize that the one leading to my dorm was a one way (neither did ANYONE. Super dangerous.) I made a U-Turn, and apparently there was a cop RIGHT behind me. Not only did he see me do the U-Turn, but I almost hit his car. Busted. Luckily he was forgiving and only gave me a ticket for the U-Turn, not for almost killing him. Fail on me.

There was ONE, and it wasn't exactly in plain sight. I could have argued the whole "new to the campus" thing, but almost hitting the cop kinda ruined my chances lol. I had just gotten my license...At least I can say that was the only idiotic mistake I've made in a car. :P

The OP still did something illegal, there's nothing to contest. Also emergency vehicles have different rules. Not to say that it doesn't occasionally get abused, but you wouldn't get upset that a fire truck ran through a red light if it was trying to get to your burning apartment.
