I just don't understand why people are so scared of asking others to turn down their music.

FYL & YDI; you have my sympathy for that 6-hour struggle to study, against loud music, but you could have asked him to turn the volume down..
If you two got along well, I'm sure he wouldn't have minded you asking him to turn it down...
I bet you must be thinking about this while writing your test. How it went well though!
Im never not wearing noise cancelling earphones when im at "home".
Sounds like your roommate is Manti Te'o's girlfriend
If you got along so well why didn't you just ask him to turn it down in the first place? He obviously would have.
6 hrs of straight studying....impressive lol
Maybe OP is like me and my roommate. We don't fight or anything, so you could say we "get along." We actually don't talk to each other at all. It's more like we are able to peacefully coexist. If she did something like this I probably wouldn't say anything either, but I'd definitely go somewhere else to study.

Why didn't you just ask him to turn off the music? If you guys were friends I'm sure he wouldn't mind.
While I understand your mindset for putting up with the loud music, it couldn't have hurt to ask him to turn it down, considering the two of you get along well. Then you might've realized that he wasn't home 6 hours ago, so YDI.
