Today, I thought it would be a great idea to tell my coworker to calm down when he appeared to be very uptight. He thought it would be a great idea to punch me right in the face. FML

Just for future reference, although you might have learned this already, telling an angry person to calm down is never a good idea.

Accidentally hit fyl, never tell anyone even slightly angry to calm down because most of the time it angers them more.

At no point in the history of calming down has anyone ever calmed down as a result of being told to calm down. If your colleague is angry, you need other escalations techniques. Something like "I'm sorry to see you angry. Could you explain what the problem is?" might be more effective.
