Pleased to meet you

Today, a thirty-something guy swaggered into my workplace. He was wearing shutter shades and torn jeans, and claimed to be our new boss. I called security to throw him out, at which point he produced his ID and let me know I'd be attending an employee review session next week. FML

But I don't blame you, who can take him seriously if he's not professional?

People still wear shutter shades?

its not really a joke, i just find it funny that he used swaggered instead of somethin else

Well he did tell you he was your boss and yes he should look more professional. I would say fault falls on both parties

FYL. That douchebag should have dressed for his job instead of looking like some dude off the street. However, you should be more careful and respectful, coz you really shouldn't judge books by their cover...

I havent seen someone wear torn jeans in years...

Umm its kinda the style where im from....

You must be from the past then

I don't know where y'all live but I see people wearing torn jeans all the time. O_o

Saw someone on a campus shuttle wearing torn jeans today. Granted he was asian... not to sound racist, a lot of the Asians in my college are new-ish to America and so probably don't know what's an olde style and what's new. Also he may know and just not give a shit what he wears

I'd kick him out too. You did the right thing. 30 something's are not qualified to wear teenager shit at work, no matter who they are.

That was probably a test, he might be big on "don't judge a book by it's cover". But it seems weird that your new boss is introducing himself as such, you'd expect you'd be told "a new boss is coming in tomorrow" or something like that at the least.

One question..why do books have covers in the first place?

Shutter shades don't allow you to see, therefore he doesn't see the humor in the "Situation"

I'm going to say this was a screw up on both parts. Considering how he looked you were right to be a little suspicious of the situation, but immediately calling security to throw him out was not the best way to handle it. You could have checked his id yourself or asked one of your supervisors who might know him.

Why does everyone assume the boss was being unprofessional? First, not everyone has to dress professional where they work. Or maybe he was just stopping in before he actually started to introduce himself. The op is to blame for making assumptions based off the way the person was dressed.

Because none of these people know anything about working in a creative industry, and to them an office environment must always be highly professional. It sucks, but that's what happens when you get a bunch of idiots sharing opinions.

If the dress code wasn't strictly formal, OP wouldn't have called security straight away and there wouldn't have been an FML. Use your brai-- oh, it's just Downtime trolling again.

69- OP only called security on his boss just because he pretty much thought that there was no way his boss would dress like that not because his boss was suppose to be wearing some kind of dress code. No matter how they are dressed you always ask for ID.

69, If this was such a formal place then I would imagine two things would have happened. 1. This person would have already passed a secretary whose job it is to stop people who shouldn't be there from entering the premises by calling security and 2, unless it really was a test to weed people out then this person would have known they were getting a new boss so when he claimed to be the boss that should have caused the OP to pause and maybe think a bit. I work in a formal place. Sure you usually want to make a good first impression but if I'm going into work on my day off and I don't need to meet with clients, then I go in in my normal clothes for a few hours to get things done. I'm a boss. My boss does the same thing. It's not uncommon if you're stopping in to not get dressed up before you stop in and say hi to people. And it is not hard to ask for an ID badge. I get asked every time I enter a facility where I'm not recognized, regardless of how I'm dressed. It's not that hard to do and I would never be offended by that.

69, Oh what fun, you hate me, I think you're an asswipe, true TV sitcom gold.
