Pretend to be busy!

By nichaneely - This FML is from back in 2010 but it's good stuff - United States

Today, I got yelled at by one of my bosses. The reason? I was yawning. I work at Starbucks. Apparently, I wasn't 'promoting' correctly. FML

@20, while this may be true, I'm guessing the general public isn't would still go with...if you're yawning, you're tired. So it is understandable that the boss was angry about yawning. He probably didn't have to yell at the OP, though. Give out free drinks ^.^ and problem solved!

Just because the unwashed masses think something, doesn't make it right.

all starbucks managers are different and have different rules and things they let slide. anyone who works for starbucks would know that. and B

AHHH HAHAHAH. i used to work at starbucks. that place makes people act like dicks. if you dont a 100% and all 5 stars on a secret shopper for the quater, then the manager doesnt get their tiny bonus and takes it out on the employees. its how EVERY large corporation works. my manager used to yell at me if i said the drink's size in a different order then i was supposed to. while SBUX gives employees benefits, they treat them like crap. and the coffee is crap anyway.

The true FML here is that you work at Starbucks

I used to work at starbucks in calary and I was given grief about my tattoos. what were they? a Celtic love knot and a regimental tattoo. but my boss could yell at employees on the floor and make them cry. how professional for 9 an hour.

I'm getting tired of seeing the whole "well, at least you have a job" comment. People lose jobs, economies crash. Life happens with out without you. Saying that the employee shouldn't complain because they are already better off than a lot of people is ridiculous. Works can still suck, just like they sucked in the 80s, the 90s. Jobs don't get less harsh just because you don't have one.

I got in trouble for that too. My former boss was totally on me any time I yawned, even when no one was there to witness it except her.

The worse thing I've seen a coworker do was looking at the Help Wanted Ads in a newspaper. The boss man was livid. I was afraid he was going to pull a gun and shoot her. He was angry that he was paying her to work and she was advertising that she hated her job. We were security guards and needed to look professional because this was a major contract for our company and it was already at risk of not getting renewed.

Next time let your boss know that yawning is actually a mechanism to keep people (or individuals of another species) alert. http://www.nytimes.com/2007/07/04/health/04iht-snvital.1.6485435.html
