Today, I had a massive argument with my boyfriend, in which he called me stupid repeatedly. I stomped out of his house and sent a very angry text to my best friend about him. She didn't text back. Then my boyfriend texted, "My girlfriend is so stupid, she can't even text the right number." FML

#94 While I agree that jumping to the conclusion of her being emotionally abused is really far-fetched...I still think he should dump his ass for calling her stupid. Yea, couples fight...my ex and I used to get in horrible fights because he had a severe anger and temper problem and he did call me a bitch on occasion when I was being a bitch to him...and I never complained about that. He did however NEVER call me stupid...sometimes he'd say "It was pretty stupid of you to do this" and then he'd say "Don't get me wrong, I'm not calling YOU stupid, I'm just saying it was a stupid decision you made" So...calling someone stupid is absolutely disresepectful and in my eyes unacceptable, because it means you're talking down on someone saying they lack intelligence and that is a very hurtful thing. And yes #105...I have had a relationship for more than 2 months! In fact I've been married for over a year now...

I have NEVER had a boyfriend call me names like that. (Except for when we're joking around, but never seriously.) I can't imagine how it's okay for an argument to degenerate into name-calling and I can't imagine how it's useful, either. DTMFA. Dump him hard and never let anyone call you names like that again. "Stupid" isn't the worst thing you could be called, but that doesn't make it right. And #117, even if you're being "bitchy" it doesn't mean your SO should be calling you a bitch. Your behavior, sure, I'd allow that, but not you yourself. Noun vs adjective. Why is "bitch" so much better than "stupid"? Because you're a woman? Would he feel the same way about you calling him "ass" as long as you didn't call him "stupid"? Everyone deserves to be treated with some amount of respect, and those who would resort to name-calling in fights are either too selfish (only care about how they look/sound in the fight) or too short-sighted (resentment can last forever) to see why that's a bad idea.
