Today, I ordered and paid for a compost bin to be emptied in addition to the garbage. Turns out most of what I wanted to put in there – although perfectly compostable – is not allowed in the bin. FML

cities have this info public. you should have read up before paying. it's unfortunate but some compost is better than no compost?

Keep it, and keep checking online for what's permitted in it. Cities have a tendency to change what can go in these bins every few months. So you might well be able to use it in the fairly near future.

It seems to me you should have asked exactly what you could or could not put in it before you got it.

I composted at home out in the country for many years. This is not practical in a once a week pick up situation. It is an example of hipster idiocy.
