Right back at ya!

Today, I had just got a milkshake with some friends. We were about to drive past my ex's house, so I thought it would be funny to throw the milkshake in his yard. Turns out, if you're going 50mph and try to throw a shake out the window, it comes right back at you. FML

Um to be clear, if you are traveling at 50mph, so is your milkshake... you just suck at throwing.

To those attempting to sound as if they understand physics (#88, 238 and whoever else) you're missing one critical element of the situation. If you are moving at 50 mph, the "wind" outside your window is not sitting still. The force from the air going the opposite direction of the car could very well cause the milkshake to head back toward the car. That's not taking into account that depending on how sturdy the cup was made it could've completely collapsed due to that force anyway. A simple experiment. Drive down the road at 50 mph and put your hand out of the window. Which direction does your hand try to go due to the force of the air moving? -- For those being nit-picky, I do understand that the air will be moving slightly due to the car/wind/etc, but for the situation given the force of the air is mostly due to the movement of the car alone. @OP: YDI
