Road rage

By notapetkiller - 26/07/2016 06:12 - United States - New Hyde Park

Today, while in the car with my mom, we accidentally ran over a dog who had sprinted into the road. Instead of stopping, my mom continued to drive as if nothing happened. Every time I tried to bring it up, she merely talked loudly over me. FML

However, if you wish to be considered an adult, you have to take responsibility for your actions. That means if you hit someone's pet, you stop the car to see if there's a vet needed and try to locate the owners if possible. Just continuing driving and pretending nothing's happened is not only irresponsible, it's immature.

I'm from New York, and no, we aren't actually all assholes. Only some of us. You can guess who at least one of them is.

That must be an awkward car ride.. Not to be too graphic, but wouldn't running over a dog do any damage to the car? Unless of course it was really small.. But still. Sorry about you mom OP:(

I was in a similar situation but in a van and it completley dented the fender and looked like a car had hit it

Ouch.... I guess I can't expect everyone to be a sobbing mess over killing a dog, but seriously, ignoring it completely is a bit much. Sorry your mom is like that, OP.

Your mom sounds like a horrible person. But really the main thing I care about is if the dogs ok.

Or maybe she has Geico, and doesn't know how the gecko will react?

It's not only irresponsible, but inhumane

Sorry, #10 but I'm gonna have to go with #11 on this one. That dog could have belonged to a family and leaving them to wonder what happened to their pet would make worry and lose hours of sleep wondering what happened to their pet. Forcing yourself to get over the tragedy isn't going to work because you yourself will wonder if there was something you would have done about it. Other than that, your mom is very careless for running over the animal without stopping to see if the animal was a pet and beloged to a family. She has also failed to take responsibility for her own actions by driving down the road and talking over people who have attempted to bring up the incident. But that depends on the situation, however.

My dad worked on traffic laws and now a dispatcher and this is normal behavior for that

That's what you're supposed to do so you don't cause trouble in the road for other people. You can't just stop all of a sudden and possibly have a car behind crash into you.

It doesn't say a busy road or highway. Many roads you can easily stop or find a stop.

The fact the mother loudly talked over op to ignore the subject seriously suggests something else though.
