that is not right, would they rather a dead dog or a damaged car. Good on you for risking your own life
YDI for swerving recklessly out of the way. You either try to break if you can take a quick glance behind you first, or you keep going so you don't endanger anyone else's life. You easily could have hit a child that was chasing after his dog by swerving. I really hope you learned your lesson here.
You wouldn't be driving for long, then. Vehicular manslaughter ftw.
You don't swerve to avoid animals EVER. Unless it's a deer/moose or a really big animal that will **** your car up. Suck it up animal lovers. You'll do more damage if you try to swerve around that squirrel and end up hitting a car or a person instead.
no, you don't swerve for a reason moron. There could just have easily been a little kid chasing after his dog on the side of the road that could have been killed. OP was lucky it was just a car. That is why you never swerve.
You know you did the right thing at the end. You'd probably have had nightmares about dog guts spilling all over the road and dog guts covering your car had you run the poor animal over. It's money and it sucks, but at least it's not 364 nights of doggie death dream repeats. You will probably avoid other animals in the future, try to drive slower, people like you tend to run into trees.
WTF is with all of these "I rear-ended someone" FMLs? Can't you people have more original misfortunes happen to you??
let's be honest here, you didn't save the dog's life. You just didn't kill it. It was only in danger because of you after all
You should be able to sue the owners of the dog for not maintaining proper control of their animal. I just worked on a case that we sued the homeowners of a dog because it ran out into the street and our client was rear-ended after stopping for it. They should be paying to fix your car, their homeowners insurance should cover it.

You know what they say, no good deed goes unpunished.
That's like the other day I swerved to avoid hitting a squirrel right as another squirrel ran under my tire. Except I didn't have to pay damages to the original squirrel.
