Gonna be the devils advocate here: how does she, or anyone else commenting here, know that the guy wasn't in an open relationship? And if they were "hanging out", there is nothing to imply that there was any romantic feeling between OP and the guy, so he could have just thought it was a casual hookup, fwb type thing? Either way though, he should have been more upfront with you OP, I'm sorry.
